# Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-09

This policy covers the PreviewSmith app for macOS, the separate Preview Helper
app, and the website at previewsmith.app. PreviewSmith is made by Delightful
Apps PTY LTD.

## Overview

PreviewSmith is a local tool. It reads your Xcode project, renders your SwiftUI
previews and composes your screenshots — all on your Mac, in the app's own
document. We do not operate a server that receives your projects, your previews
or your images.

The app is not silent on the network, though, and we would rather be precise
than sound purer than we are. It talks to Apple's App Store Connect API with the
key you supply, to an Apple time server so it can sign those requests, to our own
host to fetch the Preview Helper download, and to our subscription provider to
check whether you are on the paid tier. Each of those is described under
"Outbound connections" below.

This website runs no analytics and sets no cookies.

## What the app handles

**Your project and its previews.** PreviewSmith reads the Xcode project you
point it at in order to find your previews and your app's identity, and to
render them. It only ever reads — it never writes to your project. Project
files, source code and rendered previews stay on your Mac.

**Your App Store Connect data.** With the key you supply, the app reads your
apps, their releases and the screenshots already attached to each one. For the
coverage grid and release checklist it also reads your build, metadata, age
rating, pricing, availability and export compliance status. What it writes is
limited to screenshots and screenshot sets: it does not create App Store
versions, edit your description, keywords or What's New, change pricing, or
submit for review.

**Generated screenshots and marketing images.** Screenshots you export, and the
marketing images you compose in device bezels, are written to your Mac and stored
in your `.previewsmith` document. They are sent anywhere only when you start an
upload.

**App Store Connect credentials.** To read and upload on your behalf,
PreviewSmith needs an App Store Connect API key. That key is stored in your macOS
Keychain, so that it never syncs to another device and optionally behind Touch
ID, and used for one purpose: authenticating requests to Apple's App Store
Connect API. It is never transmitted to us and never sent anywhere other than
Apple.

**Settings.** Your preferences and the configuration of your screenshot runs are
stored locally in the app's own container.

## What we collect

Nothing automatically. We have added no analytics, no telemetry, no
crash-reporting service and no advertising identifiers to PreviewSmith. We
cannot see your projects, your images, your App Store Connect account or how you
use the app.

The one component that reports to a third party is the subscription SDK, which is
described under "Subscription" below. It tells us how many people are
subscribed; it does not tell us who you are.

If you email support, we receive whatever you put in that email — your address,
your message, and anything you attach — and we use it only to answer you. We do
not use it for marketing and we do not sell it.

## Outbound connections

These are every host the app contacts, and what each one carries:

- **`api.appstoreconnect.apple.com`** — Apple's App Store Connect API. Carries
your API key and the release data and images you read or upload, under your own
  developer account.
- **`time.apple.com`** — a clock-offset query. App Store Connect rejects tokens
signed with an inaccurate timestamp, so the app checks the time against Apple's
server. It carries no personal data and no information about you or your
  project.
- **`helper.previewsmith.app`** — our own host. Serves the Preview Helper's
version manifest and download. Requests to it appear in standard web server
logs, including IP addresses; nothing about your project is sent.
- **RevenueCat** — our subscription provider, contacted on launch and when you
  purchase or restore. See below.

## Subscription

Subscription handling is done via RevenueCat, which validates your purchase with
Apple and tells the app which tier to unlock. RevenueCat receives an anonymous
app user ID that it generates, your purchase and receipt data, and basic device
and OS metadata. It does not receive your name, your email or your project. Its
handling is covered by
[RevenueCat's privacy policy](https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/).

Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple. Neither we nor RevenueCat receive
your Apple ID or your payment details.

## This website

previewsmith.app is a static site. It sets no cookies, embeds no trackers, loads
no third-party fonts or scripts, and runs no analytics. Our hosting provider,
GitHub Pages, keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) as part of
serving and protecting the site; that is covered by
[GitHub's privacy statement](https://docs.github.com/site-policy/privacy-policies/github-privacy-statement).

## Third parties

- **Apple** — when you read or upload, your releases, screenshots and their
metadata go to and from App Store Connect under your own developer account,
subject to Apple's terms and privacy policy. Apple also handles subscription
  payment.
- **RevenueCat** — validates subscription purchases, as above.
- **GitHub** — hosts this website and the Preview Helper download host, as
  above.

We do not share, sell or rent your information.

## International transfers of information

RevenueCat and GitHub process data outside Australia, and Apple operates
globally. Information may therefore be processed, stored and used outside the
country in which you are located. Data privacy laws vary across jurisdictions,
and different laws may apply to your data depending on where it is processed.

## Information for European Union customers

If you are in the EU or the UK, using PreviewSmith means the limited data
described above — a subscription identifier, purchase records and server logs —
is transferred to and processed in countries outside the EU, including Australia
and the United States. We hold no account of your own: we do not have your name,
your email (unless you write to us) or any record of what you build.

## Your rights

Because we hold no account data, there is usually nothing of yours for us to
export or erase. If you have emailed us and would like that correspondence
deleted, write to
<a href="mailto:support@previewsmith.app">support@previewsmith.app</a> and we
will delete it.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the Australian Privacy
Act, the GDPR or similar laws to access, correct or erase personal information
we hold, or to complain to a regulator. The same address is the way to exercise
them.

## Consent

By using PreviewSmith or this website, you consent to this privacy policy.

## Children

PreviewSmith is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do
not knowingly collect information from them.

## Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date below and note the
change in the [changelog](/changelog/). Continuing to use PreviewSmith after a
change means you accept the updated policy.
